Sutherland to Surf

The Sutherland to Surf is only a few months away.

This means that we’ll soon be inundated with running injuries as people are preparing for the big race!

Most often it’s the over-keen new or recent runner ramping up their running load too quickly. They don’t give their body time to adapt to the rigours of road running, and they invariably break down.

Sticking to a graduated training program is essential for injury avoidance.

Luckily, there are some great apps you can download to keep you on track, gradually increasing your running load, and giving you the confidence that your legs, in particular, will remain injury-free.

One of my favourites is the 10K runner app, which will take from 0 to 5Kms in 8 weeks, and up to 10 K with a further 6 weeks of training. The Sutherland to Surf is 11 K.

The app uses alternating walk/run intervals that gradually increase over time. Just put the headphones on and a voice will come in over the top of your music, and tell you when to walk or run. Simple.

Free to download, with a lifetime in-app purchase of $10.99. It’s well worth it.
